WEEKLY NEWSLETTER- W/C 04.05.2026

{item_alt_tag}

I would like to thank all the parents who joined the Parents Forum online this week and contributed ideas to help increase parental engagement.

It has been lovely to enjoy some summer weather and to see the children making the most of the field at lunchtime. Hopefully, the fine weather continues for our Sports Day next Friday.

As many of you already know, FOBs raised an incredible £2,600 last week from the Bletchingley to Brighton run. Thank you to everyone who sponsored and supported the children in taking part. We are excited to use these funds to support our OPAL scheme, helping to further enhance playtimes and lunchtimes for all children.

As you are aware, Mrs Fletcher is currently on maternity leave, and we have two Deputy Headteachers covering her role. Please see below a message from them both so you can get to know them better.

Wishing you all a lovely long weekend.

Denise Coady

Laura White

I am delighted to have joined Bletchingley as deputy this term. I have been a teacher for many years both in mainstream and in a specialist centre and was a deputy headteacher in Chertsey in my previous role. I am particularly interested in reading and phonics and building strong relationships in a school community.  I look forward to getting to know you all and thank you for such a warm welcome from the staff, children and parents.

Jess Cushman

Thanks everyone for making me feel so welcome! I have really enjoyed getting to know the children and families in the Bletchingley community so far. I'm joining the team from a local Trust, with previous experience teaching in Portsmouth, Croydon and West Sussex. My passions are teaching and learning, and building meaningful relationships with pupils, colleagues and families. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, especially my teenage daughter and our 2 cats! Please do come and introduce yourself on the playground in the morning, so I can get to know more of you!

  • For any choices that have not been made via Arbor and a packed lunch is not provided, your child will get the main meal option 1.

Penalty Notices to Address Poor Attendance at School

A Penalty Notice may be issued as an alternative to the prosecution of a parent/carer for their child’s unauthorised absence from school (absence without the agreement of the school or not covered by a medical note) and will be used by Surrey County Council in the following circumstances :-

Just to remind parents/carers that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), then the following will apply:

1. If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3 year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

 2. If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

 3. If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.

Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.
