Geography

At Bletchingley, we aim to inspire a curiosity and fascination about the world, helping children to understand both their local environment and the wider global community. We want pupils to develop a strong sense of place and recognise their role in shaping the future of our planet.

Through engaging, enquiry-based lessons, children build knowledge of diverse places, people and environments, while developing key geographical skills such as observing, questioning, measuring and analysing. They explore important themes including weather, sustainability and how human and physical features interact, encouraging them to think critically about the world around them.

Our curriculum is designed to be progressive and hands-on, with regular opportunities for fieldwork and outdoor learning. We make the most of our school grounds, including our forest school area, to help children develop practical skills and a deeper understanding of their locality. Pupils also use maps, atlases and digital technology to explore places beyond their immediate environment, bringing Geography to life in meaningful ways.

We encourage children to express their views and take an active interest in important global issues, supporting them to become responsible, informed citizens. By the end of their time with us, our pupils are confident, curious geographers who understand how the world is interconnected and are equipped with the knowledge and skills to continue their learning while helping to care for the world around them.
