History
At our school, we aim to inspire a love of History by helping children develop curiosity about the past and an understanding of how it shapes the world we live in today. We want pupils to see History as engaging, meaningful and relevant, while encouraging them to ask questions and think deeply about the world around them.

Through carefully planned, enquiry-based lessons, children develop a secure understanding of key historical events, people and periods. They learn to build chronological awareness, making connections between different times in history, and begin to understand concepts such as change, cause and consequence, and similarity and difference. Pupils are encouraged to think like historians by exploring evidence, asking questions and considering different perspectives.
Our curriculum is designed to build knowledge and skills progressively, revisiting key concepts to deepen understanding over time. Lessons include a range of engaging approaches such as discussion, storytelling, role play and the use of historical sources and artefacts. These experiences help children to investigate the past in an active and memorable way, while developing their confidence in sharing ideas and opinions.

We also place importance on broadening pupils’ understanding of the world by exploring a diverse range of histories and cultures. By the end of Key Stage 2, our pupils have a strong foundation of historical knowledge, can interpret evidence and form their own reasoned conclusions, and are equipped with the skills and enthusiasm to continue their learning in History.
