Nursery

Children in the early years foundation stage continually experience stories, rhymes, songs and activities that develop their vocabulary and communication skills well. Skilled staff plan and adapt their phonics teaching carefully so that all pupils can access their learning at an appropriate level. The newly opened provision for two-year-olds was a result of leaders’ determination to ensure that children start their learning as early as possible.

OFSTED 2020

Set in beautiful and extensive grounds, our Nursery provides a perfect introduction to school life.  We aim to provide a welcoming environment which is inclusive, caring and stimulating, and where our children develop good self-esteem and resilience.  In fact, all the data we have clearly shows that the children in Reception who came through our Nursery have higher baseline assessments than those that have come through all other routes.

Our Nursery is led by our Early Years Leader, Mrs Danni Barlow who is also one of our Reception teachers.  It is staffed by qualified early years practioners who use the key worker model to ensure a close partnership with parents and carers to encourage the development of every child. The safeguarding of our children is our first priority and our staff are committed to ensuring that children feel safe, happy and cared for.

We encourage all our children to achieve their very best whilst recognising and celebrating our diversity by following the values we share throughout our school.  These are: Respect; Caring and Self-Discipline.

Our children learn and develop through imaginative and creative play, interwoven with short, structured adult-let sessions based on Development Matters, the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Their learning is enriched by a range of trips and visits including The British Wildlife Centre.  Badger and Rabbit Class work closely alongside our reception class and are fully integrated into the life of the whole school and attend and participate in a range of events such as the Nativity and special assemblies.

What parents say:

"Freddie has loved being at the BVPS nursery over the last 11 months and has grown hugely in confidence. It is great that we are able to use the 30 hours funding, it is certainly worth it. We love the emphasis on outdoor learning and there is so much space for them to run around in. To be able to take some of their lessons outside is a huge benefit. He has integrated into the class and the school as a whole so well and thoroughly enjoys going in every day. We're really happy with his development and he has settled in so well."
