RE

At Bletchingley Village Primary School and Nursery, we aim to support every child in developing the understanding and personal insight they need to flourish individually and as citizens in a diverse world. Through our Religious Education (RE) curriculum, we ask challenging questions about the meaning and purpose of life, helping pupils to explore religious and non-religious worldviews in local, national, and global contexts.

Our curriculum is firmly rooted in our school values of caring, respect and self-discipline, which are at the heart of all learning and behaviour. Children are supported to show respect for all, valuing the right of others to hold different beliefs while learning to agree or disagree respectfully. We promote self-awareness and sensitivity toward the feelings and ideas of others, building an inclusive environment that challenges prejudice and celebrates the diversity of our community.

Alongside this, our teaching promotes our key learning behaviours. Pupils are encouraged to show curiosity by investigating ultimate questions and exploring new ideas, and to take pride in their personal growth and the development of their own insights. Through collaboration and shared learning, they develop an aptitude for dialogue, learning to listen carefully and work positively with others even when their views differ. Children are supported to embrace challenge, building determination and resilience when exploring complex or sensitive topics, while also developing independence as they reflect on their own worldview and the factors that influence it.

Following the Surrey Agreed Syllabus (2023-2028), our learning is structured around three multidisciplinary "Golden Threads": God (theological approaches), Community (sociological approaches), and Identity (philosophical approaches). Through engaging, enquiry-based lessons, pupils explore sacred texts, artefacts, and diverse expressions of lived experience. Teaching takes place in a safe and supportive environment where all perspectives are valued, allowing children to move from knowledge accumulation to higher-level thinking and sophisticated skills.

We also ensure that pupils are equipped to navigate the changing landscape of belief in modern Britain, helping them to develop reasoned, informed responses to religious and moral issues. By the end of Key Stage 2, our pupils demonstrate our school values and learning behaviours in their attitudes and actions. They are confident, respectful individuals who can articulate their own beliefs clearly while showing genuine appreciation and wonder for the world around them, prepared to take their place in a diverse, multi-religious, and multi-secular society.
