PSHE, RSE and Citizenship
At our school, we aim to support every child in developing the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to lead happy, healthy and fulfilling lives. Through our PSHE and RSE curriculum, we help pupils to understand themselves and others, build positive relationships and navigate the challenges of an ever-changing world.
Our curriculum is firmly rooted in our school values of caring, respect and self-discipline, which are at the heart of all learning and behaviour. Children are supported to show kindness and empathy, value and respect others, and take responsibility for their actions and choices.
Alongside this, our teaching promotes our key learning behaviours. Pupils are encouraged to show curiosity by asking questions and exploring new ideas, and to take pride in their personal growth and achievements. Through discussion and shared learning, they develop collaboration, learning to listen carefully and work positively with others. Children are supported to embrace challenge, building determination and resilience, particularly when exploring complex or sensitive topics, while also developing independence in their thinking and decision-making.
Lessons focus on important areas such as relationships, health and wellbeing, safety, citizenship and economic understanding. Through engaging, discussion-based activities, pupils reflect on their experiences, develop emotional literacy and learn to make informed choices that support both their own wellbeing and that of others. Teaching takes place in a safe and supportive environment where all voices are valued.
We also ensure that pupils are equipped to stay safe in the modern world, including developing a strong understanding of online safety and responsible digital behaviour. By the end of Key Stage 2, our pupils demonstrate our school values and learning behaviours in their attitudes and actions. They are confident, respectful individuals who can maintain positive relationships, make thoughtful decisions and contribute positively to the world around them.
