SLCN Centre (Low COIN)

Our Primary COIN centre caters for children with recognised developmental language disorders (DLD). Children may have other needs in addition to DLD. The children are taught both in small groups in the centre as well as integrating into mainstream classes where they are taught with their peers. The centre staff work very closely with the speech and language therapy team, as well as mainstream teachers, to enable all children to develop to their full learning potential in an inclusive setting.

In Years R-6, children in the centre have access to small group teaching with specialist teaching staff. Successful inclusion is a key aim and this takes different forms throughout the day, depending on the needs of the children.

The COIN category can be subdivided into

  • Low COIN – primary need of speech, language and communication needs
  • High COIN with a primary need of autism.

At Bletchingley, we have a Low COIN Centre.
