Headteacher Update

We’ve had a fantastic first week at school! The children have settled in beautifully, quickly finding their routines and showing great learning behaviours. We’ve especially focused on presentation and taking pride in their work, and they’ve made a brilliant start.

We really value working in partnership with you. If you ever have a concern, please follow our process so we can respond promptly and make sure it’s dealt with in the best way.

During the Summer Term, we held a Parent Forum on the school’s progress last year and gathered feedback from staff and pupils. Along with Ofsted’s next steps, this has helped shape our key priorities for the year, which are outlined below.

As the weather becomes more unpredictable, please ensure children bring a named coat to school. A reminder too, that water bottles should be named and filled with water only. Thank you for your support.

Have a lovely weekend

Footballs -

Children have been asked not to bring personal footballs into school. There are plenty of balls available in school for children to use, and we do not want any children to become upset due to, for example, a lost ball.

Safeguarding Update

?Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) is a statutory guidance document published by the Department for Education in England that sets out the legal duties and good practice for schools and colleges to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people under 18. Every year all staff and governors complete training around this document. One of the main changes this year is the addition of disinformation, misinformation and conspiracy theories. Information on this can be found below. In school, we will be tackling this issue as part of our online safety curriculum.

  • Disinformation, misinformation and conspiracy theories are online safety risks for children.?
  • They refer to the spread of false information or ‘fake news’ online. ?
  • ?Children can be more at risk of taking this content at face value.?
  • Advanced AI tools can be used to present the information as fact, making it appear realistic, including the use of AI-generated images and videos.?
  • As school staff we all have a role to play to ensure pupils are kept safe online from this risk?.
  • It’s important that we find opportunities to discuss where pupils get their information from, so they understand the risks.

School Dinners are on Arbor

  • You need to select meal choices two weeks in advance. We cannot amend food choices after the cut-off as food is pre-ordered based on your selections.  If you haven’t done this yet, can you please do this going forward.  We cannot do this for parents.
  • For any choices that have not been made via Arbor and a packed lunch is not provided, your child will get the main meal option.
  • Please can you let your children know the option they will be having so it is not a surprise.
  •   For any queries, please contact G.Marks@bletchingleytlt.co.uk

Online Safety Update – App Age Guidance

Many children enjoy using apps like YouTube, TikTok, WhatsApp, Snapchat, and Instagram, but it’s important to remember that these platforms all have minimum age requirements – usually 13 years old (YouTube Kids is suitable for younger children). These age limits are in place to help protect children from content, contact, and privacy risks that may not be suitable for primary-aged users.

We encourage parents to:

  • Check age ratings before allowing children to download or use apps.
  • Use child-friendly alternatives (e.g. YouTube Kids or BBC iPlayer Kids).
  • Talk regularly with your child about what they do online and who they interact with.
  • Set clear boundaries for device use at home.

Useful Websites for Parents-

ThinkUKnow (CEOP) – Guides and resources for parents and children.

UK Safer Internet Centre – Practical tips and advice.

NSPCC Online Safety – Help with talking to children about online safety.

Parent Zone – Information and support for families in the digital age.

At Bletchingley Village Primary School, we uphold our responsibilities concerning online safety – to ensure our online procedures keep children safe in school and also teach children how to stay safe online both in school and outside. We also ensure that parents are well-equipped with the knowledge necessary to keep their children safe, particularly with regard to social media and other age-restricted software. The school sends out clear, accredited guidance regarding age-appropriate use of apps, games, social media and other online activities.  This information is also shared with the children.

Where an issue arises following the use of a platform that the children are not advised to use due to an age restriction, (for example WhatsApp) the school will signpost parents to external support such as Childnet or Childline, where other resources are available. Where the school develops sufficient concerns regarding the welfare of children accessing non-age-appropriate platforms, we will refer this to Surrey Children’s Services as a safeguarding issue.

Working together, we can help keep children safe, happy, and responsible online.
