WEEKLY NEWSLETTER- WC 22.09.2025

Headteacher Update

This week we had our first Prospective Parent tour for children who want to join our school in Nursery or Reception in September 2026. If you know of anyone whose child is due to start school in September 2026, please direct them to our website, where there is information about booking onto a tour.

As you will have noticed, at the bottom of the Newsletter each week there are key dates for your diaries for Autumn Term, so that you can plan in advance. We will endeavour not to change dates, only if there is no other option. These dates can also be found on the website calendar. Bletchingley Village Primary School & Nursery - Home

I wanted to remind parents about starting times, children from year R - 6 can enter the building between and 8.40 and 8.55. Nursery children start at 9am, children can not be dropped off before this time for safeguarding reasons. Please do not open the gate to the outside areas, a member of staff Nursery staff will do this at 9 when the nursery opens.

Next Tuesday, 23rd September, I am running the first Parent Forum of the academic year. This will be a chance to hear about the school priorities for the year and contribute to our consultation on learning behaviours. I look forward to seeing many of you there.

Finally, you will have seen that FOBS is running a volunteer event on the morning of Sunday September 28th to clear up the nature garden at the school. So that we all have an idea of numbers, if you are planning to attend, please can you sign up via this form: https://forms.gle/dHHCV6sdQMvasCCh9

Have a lovely weekend

Online Safety Update

Parental control guides

Activate parental controls to help children stay safe online.
They let you manage screen time, block inappropriate content, prevent accidental spending, and limit contact with strangers. Research shows they work best when combined with regular conversations about online activities.

Use this link to find step-by-step guides for setting up parental controls on specific apps and platforms.

Penalty Notices to Address Poor Attendance at School

A Penalty Notice may be issued as an alternative to the prosecution of a parent/carer for their child’s unauthorised absence from school (absence without the agreement of the school or not covered by a medical note) and will be used by Surrey County Council in the following circumstances :-

Just to remind parents/carers that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), then the following will apply:

1.           If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3 year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

 2.           If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

 3.           If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.

Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.
