Headteacher Update

Curriculum Enrichment

It has been a busy and exciting week of enrichment activities, bringing the curriculum to life for our children. Year 2 and Year 5 enjoyed engaging workshops linked to their history topics, The Great Fire of London and The Vikings. Year 4 and Year 1 also took part in educational visits to Kew Gardens and Chertsey Toy Museum, supporting learning beyond the classroom

Staff News

Next week will be Miss Chapman’s last week before she begins her maternity leave. I am sure you will join me in wishing her all the very best, and we look forward to hearing her happy news in due course.

Sharing Afternoon

As we head into the final week of this half term, we look forward to welcoming parents and carers to our Sharing Afternoon on Friday at 2.30pm. These afternoons provide a valuable opportunity to spend time in your child’s classroom and look at the work produced over the half term

Parent Survey

Thank you to everyone who has already completed the Parent Survey. The survey will close on Friday 13 February, so if you have not yet had the opportunity, please do take the time to share your views, your feedback is greatly appreciated https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/CWfixP5yb3

School Dinners on Arbor

This is just a reminder that the SD (Special Diet) option on Arbor should only be selected if your child has dietary needs. If it's selected, and your child has no known dietary needs, option 1 will automatically be selected for them.

This half-term we are collecting responses from parents and carers to give an opportunity to share your views, celebrate what is working well, and let us know how we can continue to improve our school. We warmly encourage you to add comments where invited.

Safeguarding Update

NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. programme

We are pleased to inform you that we are participating in the NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. Programme this term. Speak out. Stay safe. is a programme for children aged 5-11 which aims to help children understand abuse in all its forms and to recognise the signs of abuse. Children are taught to speak out if they are worried, either to a safe adult or Childline.

This child friendly programme is aligned with the curriculum and consists of age-appropriate virtual assemblies and supporting classroom-based activities which we have reviewed.  The content is delivered in an engaging and interactive way with the help of the NSPCC mascot Buddy.

Safer Internet Day 2026 – A Guide for Parents

Safer Internet Day will take place on Tuesday 10th February 2026. This annual event encourages families to come together to promote safer, more responsible and positive use of digital technology – especially for children and young people.

This year’s theme is:

Smart tech, safe choices — Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI
Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming part of everyday life, from voice assistants and chatbots to recommendation tools online. This Safer Internet Day focuses on helping children understand how AI works, how it can be used for good, and how to make safe, responsible choices when using smart technology.

What’s Available for Families on their website - Safer Internet Day 2026 - UK Safer Internet Centre

  • Free online resources — Designed for different age groups, with presentation slides and activities to help talk about AI and online safety with your children.
  • Top tips for parents and carers — Practical advice to help you support your child’s online experiences.
  • Fun quizzes — Age-appropriate quizzes to spark discussions about internet safety and using technology wisely.

How You Can Take Part

  • Set aside time on 10 February to talk with your child about how they use technology and what AI means to them.
  • Use the official top tips and resources to guide discussions about staying safe and being smart online.
  • Try one of the quizzes together — it’s a fun way to build confidence and awareness.

This Safer Internet Day is a great opportunity to help your children make smart tech choices and enjoy the benefits of digital life more safely.

Penalty Notices to Address Poor Attendance at School

A Penalty Notice may be issued as an alternative to the prosecution of a parent/carer for their child’s unauthorised absence from school (absence without the agreement of the school or not covered by a medical note) and will be used by Surrey County Council in the following circumstances :-

Just to remind parents/carers that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), then the following will apply:

1. If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3 year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

 2. If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

 3. If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.

Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.
