I hope that you had a restful break with your families, it has been lovely to see the children back settled and ready to learn.

Bletchingley to Brighton Sprint Challenge

On Thursday 23rd April, we will be holding our "Bletchingley to Brighton" sprint challenge. This is a collective effort where each class will take a scheduled turn on the field to run 100m relays and see if we can cover the distance from Bletchingley to Brighton.

FOBS and Mr Bower have organised this as a fun challenge for the school, whilst supporting fundraising to join the Opal scheme to improve our playtimes. The programme enables schools to provide every child with rich opportunities to be creative, collaborative and active in their outdoor play, in environments that are safe enough for 'health and safety' but challenging enough for children's ongoing development.  We are already a quarter of the way towards the £1,500 target and I would like to thank those who have already contributed either online or via the paper forms.

A reminder on participation:
While all children will be out on the field during their class's allocated slot to cheer on their peers, we can only allow those with a completed permission form to take part in the running itself. If you have not yet done so, please complete the form here: https://forms.gle/VzFXZ3c4vo81x7mCA

In the Spring Term we carried out a Parent Survey, thank you to all of you who took the time to complete this, your views are very important to us, and we use the feedback to continue our improvement journey. Some parents shared some very individual comments that I am sure they would like a personal response to, please ensure if you have anything that you would like to discuss on a personal level,  approach a member of SLT as we would like to support you, which is difficult through an anonymous questionnaire response.  Please see below the results of the survey, which were very positive.

Penalty Notices to Address Poor Attendance at School

A Penalty Notice may be issued as an alternative to the prosecution of a parent/carer for their child’s unauthorised absence from school (absence without the agreement of the school or not covered by a medical note) and will be used by Surrey County Council in the following circumstances :-

Just to remind parents/carers that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), then the following will apply:

1. If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3 year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

 2. If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

 3. If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.

Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.
