Head Teacher Update

It has been a busy week at school, with children completing their termly assessments, the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check, and the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check. We are very proud of the effort and determination shown by all of our pupils.

Our catering provider, 12.15, will cease trading at the end of the academic year. Please ensure that any outstanding dinner money balances are paid as soon as possible. The Trust is currently undertaking a procurement process to appoint a new catering provider for September. Once a decision has been made, we will communicate this information to parents and carers.

From next year, the Government's Sports Premium funding will be allocated differently, and schools will no longer receive this funding in the same way. Unfortunately, we currently use part of this funding to support our gym and PE lessons. As a result, Chris and Riley will continue to run their after-school clubs, which is great as they have become a large part of our school community, but will no longer deliver in-school gym sessions.

We are fortunate that, over the years, our teaching staff have worked closely with Chris and Riley and have developed the skills and confidence needed to deliver the gymnastics elements of the National Curriculum effectively.

Have a lovely weekend

Denise Coady

Safeguarding Update

Expiring Content on-line

Expiring content is content that disappears after it has been viewed or that is only available for a certain amount of time.

Children and young people are growing up in a digital world where services such as Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat all have features which allow users to post things that will eventually expire. It can be in many different forms and it’s important to recognise that expiring content is a way of messaging and sharing photos that many young people use every day.

What are the risks?

People may share more private and risky content as they believe it disappears.

There is the potential for information to be taken and shared on by others even after it has expired. For example, screen shots can be taken of the content on many services, including Snapchat.

Expiring content can be used by online bullies and can make reporting more difficult for the victim if they are unable to screenshot the content as evidence before it disappears.

Penalty Notices to Address Poor Attendance at School

A Penalty Notice may be issued as an alternative to the prosecution of a parent/carer for their child’s unauthorised absence from school (absence without the agreement of the school or not covered by a medical note) and will be used by Surrey County Council in the following circumstances :-

Just to remind parents/carers that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), then the following will apply:

1. If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3 year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

 2. If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

 3. If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.

Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.
